Beach BBQ

HOW TO HOST THE PERFECT, (stress free and economical), BEACH BBQ IN VANCOUVER, BC

Summer is a great time for outdoor activities and dining, especially in scenic Vancouver BC! There’s no reason not to get your friends, co-workers and/or family together for a great time for an exceptional BBQ this weekend! With a little planning and preparation it’s easy to enjoy good food, great company and an afternoon to remember!

 It’s as EASY as 1-2-3!

 # 1. CHOOSE A DATE, TIME & LOCATION:

Always choose a date and time best suited for the majority of your guests. If choosing a weekday, be sure to choose a time and location easy for your guests to get to after their workday.  If choosing a weekend, it is often fun to start your BBQ earlier in the day and create a “drop in” environment filled with beach activities.

Vancouver BC has plenty of great beaches for you to enjoy. Spanish Banks & Sunset Beaches are my personal favorites with its beautiful scenery and access to fun activities such as volleyball, playgrounds, and amenities such as bathrooms and picnic pavilions. Vancouver Beaches are busy!  Be sure to choose a location near a recognizable landmark so that your guests can find you. Other popular BC Beach destinations to consider are: Jericho or Locarno beaches.

 #2. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS:

The more the merrier!  Invite your favorite peeps, and invite them to bring others! Beach BBQ’s are a fantastic, casual environment creating a relaxed opportunity to introduce others into a group! The dynamics of meshing different friend circles (work, family & friends) is also a great way to get quality visits in with many during the busy summer season!

 DIVIDE THE WORK:

As the host, you should be responsible for the basics!  The BBQ, hot dogs, burgers & buns (don’t forget to include a few vegetarian options), condiments (relish, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, pickles, onions, tomato, lettuce), paper plates, napkins, plastic cups, serving & barbequing utensils, table, garbage bags, music AND a few fun games (Frisbee, bocce, volleyball, horseshoes etc).  Most of these items can be purchased at your local Costco at a very reasonable price.  Dollar stores are also great cost conscious places to find deals on non perishables.

Ask your guests to bring their own beverages AND a side dish, appy or dessert to share! Dividing the work is way easier on the planning and the pocket book!  PLUS, this way, everyone gets the opportunity to try new and delicious recipes!  TIP: If your crowd is discerning… have them bring their own meat for the BBQ J

 REMEMBER:

  • To always practice Safe BBQing and follow local beach regulations
  • Take your garbage with you – Keep our beaches clean J

Happy barbecuing!
